- The record lists 15 February 1977 as the date of discovery. The only contemporary source found, La Stampa of 19 February 1977, describes the discovery of the body in the Sempione tunnel as having occurred a few days before publication, so around 17-18 February.

Cadavere di sconosciuto nel tunnel del Sempione
The body, without documents, belonged to a man of about 20-25 years with tattoos on his chest and forearm; investigators' hypothesis was that he had been trying to reach Switzerland illegally, clinging to the outside of a train carriage.
